Description
The NJ Department of Peace Campaign works on passing the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives (HR 808) to establish a federal Department of Peace and Nonviolence, a cabinet level department addressing issues of peace both domestic and international.
This e-mail group is a way for us to communicate and discuss issues, activities and strategies directly related to the Department of Peace. We ask that other political issues be sent to your own, separate mailing lists and not to this e-mail group. No mass mailings please. Also, we ask that everyone express their ideas in a respectful manner. Keep in mind that the Department of Peace Bill is intended to be a nonpartisan bill and we want people of any party affiliation to feel welcome in this group. We ask all members to respect these guidelines.
What is the NJ Department of Peace Campaign doing? Our members are organizing by Congressional districts to raise the awareness of the public about the legislation and to lobby their members of the House and Senate to support the bill. A second part of the Department of Peace Campaign is to help build a culture of peace in our country. We challenge people to be more peaceful in their family, work and community lives. We put great emphasis on how we advocate for the bill, that is, we seek to model nonviolent communication and conflict resolution as we dialogue with people who may disagree with us. We are part of a larger national campaign to pass the Department of Peace bill.
See www.thepeacealliance.org for more information about the bill, resources to lobby Congress, ways to get connected, and much more.
